‘The GRID’ is Scripture Union’s weekly small group resource for 11-14 year olds. The leaders' guide contains session outlines for three months along with an access code for www.grid-online.org and a CD-Rom containing photocopyable resources pages, flash animations and ‘God slot’ scripts. There is also an accompanying magazine for young people. A pack containing 1 leaders' guide and 6 magazines costs £19.99 a quarter – it’s cheaper if you subscribe for a year.
The outline for each session contains a variety of ideas for you to choose between along with useful background reading for leaders. The sessions are divided into three main parts.
- Way in – A selection of ideas (discussion starters, games and activities) to set the scene.
- Bible xperience – Three options, at three different levels to help your group engage with the Bible at a level appropriate to them.
- Worship – Various activities to help the young people relate what they have learnt in the session to their lives.
The two key strengths of ‘The GRID’ (in my opinion) are the variety of ideas to choose between and the fact that ‘The GRID’ follows a well thought-through syllabus ensuring that over a three year period young people will get a good grounding in the Bible and Christian faith and practice.
