Description
Through the Bible in eleven game-based sessions for 11-14s.
This resource is designed to be used in a variety of contexts: in Sunday or midweek groups over several months, at week-long residentials or you could use four of the sessions at a residential weekend. The series aims to give young people an overview of the Bible story. Each session aims to communicate a key part of the biblical story in a way that engages young people and enables them to learn from it.
The session outlines are extremely thorough and include a clear aim, background information, a list of material and equipment needed, along with a ‘preparation’ section that encourages leaders to spend time with God thinking about the issues before the group meeting. Each session is divided into five sections and is designed to last an hour. However, if you have less time, you can do fewer sections.
- Scene-Setter: An icebreaker activity that introduces the part of the Bible you’re going to explore.
- Scheme: This is the core of the session and is a game-based activity that unpacks the Bible events in a visual, interactive, engaging and memorable way.
- Shout & Symbol:A snappy chant (if not slightly cheesy) along with a visual memory-jogger for this part of the story.
- Scoreboard:A visual way of helping the group trace the five main themes of the Bible throughout the eleven sessions. (God creates, promises, shows who he is, judges and saves.)
- Space: Time for group members to reflect on the five themes and on their own lives with God.
1) Amazing Days! (Creation)
2) Civilization? (The results of rebelling against God)
3) Going Places (Abraham)
4) Free at last! (The exodus and the ten commandments)
5) Tribal Rivals (Tribes, judges and kings – life in the Promised Land)
6) Exile (The exile in Babylon)
7) Gates and Walls (The return from exile)
8) Kingdom Rules (Jesus and the Holy Spirit)
9) Early Churches (The spread of God’s kingdom)
10) Weird, Wild and Wonderful (Jesus’ return, Revelation and new creation)
11) The Whole Story (Everything in one go!)
